What to do in the cold

Why is it, whenever it snows, all I really want is a cup of hot chocolate as well as my oversized coat. I think it is due to my Dad. He would allow us to go play in the snow. And then we’d come in icy cold and he would wrap our wet hair with towels that were heated by the stove.  If our toes were cold, he would have the heating pad warmed for us to put our feet on. I think he spoiled us, however it wasn’t a poor kind of spoiling. He typically told us that you weren’t able to spoil a child with love. And that was what he was giving us. We’d get a nice cup of steaming hot chocolate, or boiling apple cider, as we would sit down in front of the fireplace until every one of us were warmed clear through. It was those kind of memories that I wanted to give to my children; I wanted my children to be able to remember the little things that we all did together.  My daughter remembers how she would come into the house to give me a hug and I would bop him whenever he put his cold hands on my face to heat them up! But then, we already had electric heating in our home. It was a small apartment and there was only one main heating component that heated the entire house up. Surprisingly, the house stayed warm regardless of how cold it was outside. Their memories of cold days as well as staying warm, will be of me making homemade caramel corn as well as juice. It’s not as much as my Dad did for us, however my kids and I will remember.
