Back in our school afternoons, I had to struggle for a couple of months before I landed a steady part-time task position… My friends were satisfied with being employed part-time, as they had parents helping to fund their time in school, even though I didn’t have such a luxury at all! In fact, the first several months of residing away from home were incredibly rocky. I honestly almost moved back home on numerous separate occasions just because I couldn’t make ends meet… Eventually I was super lucky after a few months, and I landed a task truly working for a handyman repair company in the town. They were specifically looking to hire school-age guys to work as repair specialists, and handle all kinds of repairs. Fortunately for me, I had a lot of experience with keeping our seasoned window-mounted a/c machine up and running as well as unclogging toilets, so I was brought in and offered a task right away! I worked way more than full-time hours, as I was hoping to make sure I had more than enough money if this task fell through! To my total shock, the task was not only there for me all through school, I was able to get an incredible amount of training on the task too! At a single point, our supervisor sent a memo out via email to all the guys working at his business! He said that he would let any of us pick up a trade skill to get certified in, and he would cover the expenses of getting certified! I quickly chose heating, ventilation and air conditioning as my trade skill. Close to one year later, I was certified as a Heating, Ventilation as well as A/C repair specialist, and received a considerably improved salary. My knowhow essentially covered everything now, from cleaning ductwork and replacing air filters, to dismantling air conditioner condenser machines and installing a new air compressor! I knew everything I needed to for our customers to have exceptional air quality in their residences again, and I couldn’t have been any happier with my task than I was at that moment in time!
